Montana State Health Department Breach Affects 1.3 Million

The Montana State health department confirmed on June 24, 2014 that a security breach had occurred earlier in May. The personal information of 1.3 million people was compromised by a hacker that gained unauthorized access to one of the company’s computer servers.

Information such as Social Security numbers, bank account information, names, addresses and dates of birth were exposed as a result of this breach. In addition, parts of medical records like diagnoses, treatment, health conditions, prescriptions and insurance information were also accessed.

The Montana State health department has notified those who were potentially affected and is offering them free credit monitoring and identity protection services.
